Tyler Bertuzzi is enjoying another impressive run in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

He has recorded 11 points in 10 postseason matches for Grand Rapids after he had eight points in nine playoff contests last year. Bertuzzi has been on the scoresheet in all but two games this time around. He should be watched closely at training camp, as he appears to be due for an NHL promotion in 2017-18.

Jimmy Howard had a strong showing in the 2017 World Championships.

While Team USA was eliminated in the Quarterfinals, Howard can hardly be blamed for America's 2-0 loss to Finland. Howard posted a 1.86 GAA and .920 save percentage in six games. He was very effective during the regular season too, but injuries limited him to 26 contests.

Jimmy Howard has been superb for the U.S. at the World Hockey Championship.

He has posted three wins along with a 1.51 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage in four appearances. Howard's efforts have helped Team USA earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Daniel Cleary has not played in one game for the Grand Rapids Griffins this season.

Raise your hand if you thought he was retired. Okay, you can put it down now. While the 38-year-old has not played, he has been a big part of the team as he practices every day and has had a great effect on youngsters like Tyler Bertuzzi among others. "He taught me a lot of things, what to expect and what to not expect," Bertuzzi said last training camp, talking about Cleary’s veteran influence. "He was almost like a father figure." At least you now know what Daniel Cleary has done all season.

Dylan Larkin is up to seven assists in four games with Team USA in the 2017 World Championship.

It's a nice change from the 2016-17 campaign where he was limited to 17 goals and 32 points in 80 contests with Detroit. "I had a bitter taste in my mouth from the season just gone and I wanted to come over here," Larkin said. "Every time you get to wear this jersey it’s an honor but, more than that, I wanted to finish my season on a positive note." The 2016-17 season was Larkin's sophomore campaign and he's certainly not the first player to endure a sophomore slump. It wouldn't be surprising to see him bounce back next season.

If the Red Wings don't trade Jimmy Howard then he might be exposed in the expansion draft.

"It's a business, and what they (Red Wings management) decide, that's what they decide," Howard said. "It's pretty much out of your control. I haven't thought about it because you don't want to stress yourself out. I haven't spoken to anybody about it." He outplayed Petr Mrazek for most of the 2016-17 season, but he is older, more expensive and he has had some injury issues for the last two years.

Dylan Larkin has compiled five assists in three games at the IIHF World Championship.

He has the most points on the U.S. team right now and he is tied for second among all skaters in assists. Larkin wanted to use the tournament to keep learning and it looks like he could build some confidence going into next season if his production continues.

Tyler Bertuzzi has three goals and eight points in six AHL playoff games this year.

This isn't his first strong run with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the postseason either. The 22-year-old is up to 17 goals and 28 points in 29 career AHL playoff contests. He's one of the Red Wings top prospects and his ability to step up in big games could be a big asset for Detroit in the years to come.

Don't be surprised if Tomas Nosek makes the Red Wings out of training camp next season.

The 24-year-old Nosek, who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of the Czech Republic in 2014, registered 41 points in 51 AHL regular season games and has been a bright light in the AHL playoffs with six points in six games. Nosek scored one goal in 11 contests with the Red Wings this season but has the potential to score more. Keep an eye on him in training camp.

Evgeny Svechnikov is eager to get back to the NHL level next season.

He played two games with the Red Wings at the end of the year before he was returned to the minors. "It made me more hungry," Svechnikov said. "It gave me more confidence and it helped my game." He notched 20 goals and 31 assists in 74 games for Grand Rapids during the regular season. The 20-year-old forward also has one goal and four points in four playoff matches.

Dennis Cholowski has been serving as an extra player during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

"It's really exciting to be a part of it," said Cholowski, who signed an entry-level contract with Detroit last month. "I'm getting to practice, working with the coaches, and learning and getting used to the pro lifestyle. It's exciting to be here, be part of this organization, and learn from everyone." He suited up in one regular-season game with Grand Rapids after he finished his freshmen year with St. Cloud State University.

Matej Machovsky has signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Machovsky participated in the Red Wings' development camp in July 2016 and he has played in the last four seasons with HC Plzen of the Czech Extraliga. He has recorded a 94-84-0 record with a 2.23 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and 14 shutouts in 178 appearances since 2013-14.

Detroit has the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

The Red Wings intend to take the best player available in that spot. "We have a pretty good list of guys we have a shot at," said director of amateur scouting Tyler Wright. "It's a cliché, but we're not going to pass on a good player because we have an abundance of wingers in our system. We will take the best player we think is available at that point in time – position is not going to be a factor with our first pick."

Red Wings goalie coach Jeff Salajko will be returning to the team next season.

Salajko was the only coach on Jeff Blashill's staff that didn't have a contract for next season. Salajko just completed his first year as the team's goalie coach. "Jeff Salajko will be back," Blashill said. "I think he has done a real good job. He has a very good relationship with our goaltenders and has an ability to help them get better and get better at fundamentals."
