John Hammond has agreed to a five-year deal to become Orlando's new GM.

Hammond has served as Milwaukee's GM since 2008, and some of his more impressive accomplishments include drafting Giannis Antetokounmpo with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft and also orchestrating a sign-and-trade deal that sent Brandon Jennings to Detroit in exchange for Brandon Knight and Khris Middleton. With Hammond leaving the Bucks, assistant GM Justin Zanik is expected to be promoted to GM.

The Magic formally announced Tuesday that they have hired Jeff Weltman as their new president of basketball operations.

Weltman had previously worked for the Bucks, Pistons and Clippers earlier in his career. He spent the past four seasons in Toronto, working alongside Raptors president Masai Ujiri. "Jeff brings tremendous experience and a team-first approach to our president of basketball operations position," Magic CEO Alex Martins said in a statement.

The Magic have reportedly hired Jeff Weltman to be their new president of basketball operations.

Jeff Weltman has served as Masai Ujiri's right-hand man with the Raptors since the pair arrived in 2013 and began the turnaround for the Toronto franchise, so this should be viewed as a very positive hiring for an organization in need of some new direction. The deal is reportedly for five years, and Weltman will be responsible for hiring Orlando's next general manager.

Evan Fournier hasn't decided if he will play for France at Eurobasket this summer.

"Soon I will meet coach Collet and then we’ll see," Fournier said in an interview with L'Equipe. "I will soon see a wrist specialist. And my summer will depend on what he will tell me. My experience with France is not over. I did not put a cross on it. I am not retiring internationally." The big takeaway here is that he's seeing a wrist specialist, so we'll look for an update on that front in the coming days. For what it's worth, Fournier has missed some time in each of the last two seasons with a sore right wrist.

Evan Fournier said there could be a lot of changes in Orlando this offseason.

`When you lose, that’s really when things shake up and teams make a lot of changes," Fournier said. "So, yeah, everyone is fully aware [that changes could come]. I’m not the type of guy who is concerned by that sort of thing." Fournier is under contract for at least three more seasons with a player option in 2020-21, so it's tough to see the Magic moving on from him at this point. Fournier didn't live up the expectations of his new deal this season, averaging 17.2 points on 43.9 percent shooting with 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.9 triples.

The Magic have fired GM Rob Hennigan according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

The Magic aren't wasting any time here. Hennigan has made some puzzling trades and questionable signings for the Magic, and the writing has been on the wall for some time. Hennigan traded away Tobias Harris for Ersan Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings in 2015-16, he moved Victor Oladipo and their 2016 first-round pick (Domantas Sabonis) for Serge Ibaka in June of 2016, and then he accepted defeat by acquiring Terrence Ross from the Raptors in exchange for Ibaka during this year's deadline -- the Magic feared that Ibaka would walk for nothing as a free agent this summer. Matt Lloyd will take over as the interim GM and could be a candidate to keep the job.

Elfrid Payton scored 21 points in Wednesday's 113-109 win over the Pistons, adding 13 assists, five rebounds and one triple in 31 minutes.

He finished 10-of-18 from the field and really had a strong finish to the season, returning top-50 value in standard leagues since the All-Star break with averages of 13.5 points, 8.4 assists, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.6 blocks and 2.5 turnover. He also showed a lot of improvement as a shooter and really excelled in Orlando's small-ball lineup. However, the Magic have a 29.1 percent chance of landing a pick in the top three of a draft that is loaded with quality PGs, so Payton could have some fresh competition next season.

Aaron Gordon finished the season with a bang on Wednesday vs. Detroit, racking up 32 points, 12 rebounds, one steal, two blocks and three triples in 35 minutes.

Coach Frank Vogel was supposed to limit the minutes of the first unit tonight, but he didn't want to take Gordon off the floor. The forward finished 11-of-20 from the field and hit all seven of his free throws as he continues to thrive as a small-ball PF. Gordon showcased his upside after the All-Star break with averages of 16.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.7 blocks and 0.9 triples on 50.5 percent shooting, returning top-45 value in standard leagues in that span. There's a lot to be excited about for next season.

Frank Vogel indicated that he'll give meaningful minutes to Patricio Garino, Marcus Georges-Hunt and Stephen Zimmerman for Wednesday's regular-season finale vs. Detroit.

Vogel hinted after shootaround that he would not stick with his usual rotation on Wednesday night in order to get a better look at some of the younger guys on the roster, so meaningful minutes for the aforementioned players will likely come at the expense of Evan Fournier, Terrence Ross and Nikola Vucevic.

Frank Vogel said he'll start with his regular lineup for Wednesday's regular-season finale against the Pistons, and then, "play it by ear after that."

It sounds like Vogel would like to get an extended look at some of the younger guys on the roster tonight, so Mario Hezonja could see his minutes in the 30s again, and new additions Marcus Georges-Hunt and Patricio Garino could see some extended minutes in the rotation. If these guys do indeed earn significant minutes in the rotation tonight, Terrence Ross might only see his minutes in the 20s.

Nikola Vucevic plans to improve 3-point shooting over the summer.

Vucevic attempted only 26 triples over his first five NBA seasons but launched 73 treys in 2016-17. He plans to spend the offseason improving his stroke, as he is shooting only 28.8 percent from downtown. "It's definitely something I want to add to my game. I think it’s going to help myself a lot as well as the team," said Vucevic. His coach, Frank Vogel, agrees. "If he carries the threat to the 3-point line, it improves everybody else on the floor," Vogel said. This is something to keep in mind on draft day next October.
Tue, Apr 11, 2017 09:51:00 AM

Nikola Vucevic finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot over 27 minutes in Monday's 122-75 loss at Chicago.

Vucevic moved past Shaquille O'Neal (3,691) for second place on the team's all-time rebounding list. He is finishing up strong and it's great news for fantasy owners who feared the Magic might shut him down at some point. He has 10 or more rebounds in each of his five April outings.

Evan Fournier (calf) finished with 14 points, three assists and a blocked shot over 28 minutes in Monday's blowout loss at Chicago.

Fournier did not appear to show any after effects of his calf injury, and the only reason he didn't play more was likely due to the lopsided nature of the score and the fact he was returning from an ailment. It appears safe to get him back into the active lineup for Wednesday's regular-season finale against the Pistons.
Mon, Apr 10, 2017 11:52:00 PM

Evan Fournier (calf) is starting on Monday vs. the Bulls.

Fournier was listed as questionable in the game notes with a strained left calf, so his sore left wrist from last week is likely behind him. Feel free to deploy him in season-long lineups, but his minutes might be monitored with the Magic playing for lottery balls.
