Jamal Murray (groin) has progressed to light running and getting up jump shots.

Murray was recently cleared to begin basketball-related activities after undergoing surgery back in April, although he's still not been cleared for contact, and as of right now, Summer League doesn't seem like a very realistic option. Still, he has plenty of time to get ready for the 2017-18 season, and he could see a big jump in his development during Year-2, particularly if the Nuggets lose Danilo Gallinari during free agency.

Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Rudy Gobert are the finalists for Most Improved Player.

No sign of Otto Porter, Tim Hardaway Jr. or James Johnson for this award. The three nominees dazzled us throughout the year with Giannis and Gobert earning All-NBA Second Team nods -- Jokic did receive a first-team vote. Antetokounmpo is considered as the heavy favorite here and there's almost no chance fantasy owners will be able to draft him after No. 5 next year.

General manager Tim Connelly said the Nuggets could try to move up from 13 to around eight or nine.

He added the Nuggets aren't looking for a specific position and just want best available. That plan seems to have worked out so far after the Nuggets went guard heavy with Jamal Murray and Malik Beasley in the draft last year.

Will Barton will not agree to a contract extension with the Nuggets this offseason.

It's a no-brainer move for Barton, as he can make a lot more money if he waits until he hits free agency in the summer of 2018. With one year left on his deal and the Nuggets loaded with depth at shooting guard, Barton is a prime trade candidate. He finished the 2016-17 season with averages of 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.5 triples on 44.3 percent shooting.

Jamal Murray (groin) had successful surgery to repair core muscle-related injuries.

The surgery was performed on Thursday in Philadelphia and general manager Tim Connelly said it was for a "couple" injuries. Murray will resume basketball related activities this summer and is expected to be at full strength when the Nuggets open training camp this fall. There is no word on if Murray will be at Summer League, but it's possible he won't be all the way back.

The Nuggets are "hopeful" that Juancho Hernangomez will play with the Spanish national team this summer, according to GM Tim Connelly.

Hernangomez played three seasons in Spain's professional league, culminating in 2015-16 averages of 9.7 points, 1.0 threes, 5.7 boards, 0.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks in 23.7 minutes. The 21-year-old is on a rookie-scale contract, with Denver owing him no more than $3.3 million per season through the 2019-20 season, so it makes sense that they'd want to see him develop and compete at a high level. We'll keep a close eye on his progress this offseason.

General manager Tim Connelly said the top priority is to bring back Danilo Gallinari for next season.

"You never know how the market is going to progress," Connelly said. There is a lot to this story with Gallo having a $16.1 million player option, and also Connelly said the Nuggets need to add more perimeter defense around Nikola Jokic. Gallinari cleared the 60-game mark for just the second time since joining the Nuggets for a full season in 2011-12, so it makes sense for him to hit the market at age 28. Plus, Juancho Hernangomez probably deserves more minutes for a litany of reasons.

General manager Tim Connelly said Mason Plumlee "is going to be a huge piece of our core."

Connelly said he's still happy with the Jusuf Nurkic and Plumlee deal, which is part of the reason the Nuggets didn't make the playoffs. The Blazers were happy to let Plumlee go because of his upcoming restricted free agency, but the Nuggets do look like they want to sign him. He'll be backing up Nikola Jokic, especially after the Jokic-Plumlee lineups were not working later in the season.

General manager Tim Connelly said Jamal Murray will have surgery for a couple of different injuries.

Presumably, one of those injuries is going to be his sports hernia he played through for most of his rookie season. Even with the injuries, Murray busted out in April, averaging 15.1 points, 3.6 boards, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.6 treys on 44.9 percent from the field and perfect free throw shooting. Assuming these surgeries won't affect him in a couple months, Murray is going to be a popular target in drafts.

The Nuggets will attempt to sign Gary Harris to a contract extension this offseason.

Harris, who averaged career-highs in points (14.9), rebounds (3.1), assists (2.9) and shooting percentage (50.3), is scheduled to make $2.5 million next season. "I still don’t think the league appreciates how good he is and how young he is," Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said. "He’s going to be here for a very long time." Injuries are a concern (he played in only 57 games), but Harris' fantasy stock is definitely on the rise.

Denver general manager Tim Connelly said the Nuggets plan to sign restricted free agent Mason Plumlee to a new contract this summer.

"[Plumlee] brought a lot of what we thought he would bring – intensity, a vertical threat at the rim," Connelly said. "When we traded for him, we traded for him for the purpose of bringing him back." That trade, in which Denver sent Jusuf Nurkic and a first-round pick to Portland, looks bad right now and would look that much worse if the Nuggets lost Plumlee in free agency without getting anything in return. Expect Denver to match any offer Plumlee receives.

Danilo Gallinari, who can become a free agent this summer, is unsure if he will return to play for the Nuggets next season.

Gallinari has a $16.1 million player option for the 2017-18 campaign. It is very likely that Gallo opts out of the final year of his contract to cash in as a free agent this summer, at which point he'll sign for well over a $100 million on a new long-term deal. Gallinari did say that it would be "tough" for him to leave Denver. "It’s my city. I love the city. After my career is over, Denver is going to be my city." We shall see if the Nuggets are willing to pony up in order to keep him in a Nuggets uniform.

Jamal Murray played through a sports hernia this season.

He played in all 82 games, so a ton of credit goes to Murray. Coach Mike Malone said Murray was playing through some pain, and now we know the details. Murray made it very clear he is capable of being a point guard, especially with how well the Nuggets fared with him at the one. In fact, the lineup of Murray, Gary Harris, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler and Nikola Jokic posted a +21.4 net rating in 67 minutes since the break -- that ranks fourth in the NBA among 82 lineups with at least 60 minutes in that span. Murray figures to be a popular breakout pick next year.

Wilson Chandler was a healthy scratch on Wednesday in the season finale vs. the Thunder.

The Nuggets had nothing to play for, so Chandler missed his 11th game of the season. The 29-year-old wing is owed $12 million in 2017-18 and has a player option for 2018-19 worth $12.8 million, and with Danilo Gallinari expected to opt out and hit free agency this summer, Chandler could be looking at another 30-minute role next season. He finished the 2016-17 campaign with averages of 15.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.5 triples on 46.1 percent shooting.

Nuggets GM Tim Connelly said that Danilo Gallinari has been a "core piece" of the Nuggets for a "very long time."

"We have a fantastic relationship, so we’re always very up front and honest," Connelly said. "If he opts out we’ll figure out how we approach that. He’s a guy who really enjoys Denver. He had a career year in a bunch of different statistical categories." It's a no-brainer for Gallo to opt out of the final year of his deal to take advantage of the rising salary cap, and while Gallo has said that he would like to finish his career as a Nugget, money talks. Gallo averaged 18.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.6 steals and 2.0 triples on 44.7 percent shooting this season, appearing in 63 games. He will turn 29 in August.
