Blue Jays placed OF Anthony Alford on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamate fracture.

That's an injury that usually requires 4-6 weeks of rest and rehab, sometimes much longer. Alford was just promoted to Toronto last Friday and collected his first major league hit -- a double -- on Tuesday night at Miller Park. Unfortunately for the last-place Blue Jays, the 22-year-old top outfield prospect will rack up service time while he is on the MLB disabled list.

Blue Jays recalled OF Dwight Smith Jr. from Triple-A Buffalo.

Smith went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during a short stay with the Jays last week. The 24-year-old outfielder probably won't play regularly enough to hold fantasy relevance.

Joe Biagini gave up three runs over 4 1/3 innings in Tuesday’s 4-3 win over the Brewers.

Biagini blanked the Brew Crew through the first four frames, but he got BABIP’d to death in the fifth with four singles, a walk and three runs. He issued three free passes on the night and recorded three strikeouts. Biagini was good in his first two starts, but that hasn’t been the case the last two times out. He’ll try for better results against the Reds in his next outing.

Roberto Osuna tossed a scoreless ninth inning to record his seventh save of the season on Tuesday in Milwaukee.

Osuna walked Eric Sogard with two outs as he tried to protect a one-run lead, but he then got Jonathan Villar swinging to end it. He hasn't been afforded many save chances this season, but Osuna has now been unscored upon in 11 of his last 12 appearances.

Kendrys Morales smacked a two-run homer Tuesday in Milwaukee.

Morales' longball off of Jimmy Nelson in the fifth inning extended the Blue Jays' lead to 4-0 and they wound up hanging on 4-3. While his .244/.295/.433 batting line isn't anything to write home about, Morales has swatted eight home runs and driven in 25 runs.

Blue Jays sent C Michael Ohlman outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Ohlman accepted the assignment after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 26-year-old catcher was designated for assignment by Toronto on Saturday.

Jose Bautista is starting at third base on Tuesday night against the Brewers.

Bautista has played some third base this season, but only as a substitute. This will be his first start there since April 14, 2013. Toronto has had to scramble at the hot corner with Josh Donaldson (calf) on the disabled list and Joey Bats could get a few more tries there if he avoids embarrassment.

Francisco Liriano (shoulder) is expected to make a rehab start on Sunday.

Liriano had a successful live batting practice session on Tuesday evening and will be cleared to join one of the Blue Jays' minor league affiliates this weekend if he wakes up Wednesday with no abnormal discomfort. The veteran left-hander is on track to return to Toronto's starting rotation in early June. He has a 6.35 ERA in 28 1/3 innings this season.

Aaron Sanchez (finger) has not resumed throwing.

Sanchez landed on the disabled list over the weekend with a laceration (or blister) on his right middle finger. He told reporters Tuesday that he's frustrated by the lingering blister issues but will allow this one to fully heal before ramping up his rehab. It sounds like he'll be out for much longer than 10 days.

Troy Tulowitzki (hamstring) went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Monday's rehab game with High-A Dunedin.

The veteran shortstop has been on the shelf since April 21 due to a strained right hamstring, but is finally making tangible strides toward a return to the Jays. Expect him to be activated from the disabled list later this week.

Josh Donaldson (calf) went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts in his first minor league rehab game with High-A Dunedin on Monday.

He was also hit by a pitch in the contest. The important thing though is that he made it through the game healthy. He's expected to need a couple of games before he's ready to rejoin the Blue Jays later in the week.

Josh Donaldson (calf) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with High-A Dunedin.

Donaldson will be joined by teammate Troy Tulowitzki (hamstring) in his return to action. The 31-year-old has been sidelined since aggravating his right calf strain on April 13, but he's finally ready for game action. Assuming all goes well, he should be ready to rejoin the Jays within a few days. Fantasy owners are hoping that the long wait will be worth it.

Troy Tulowitzki (hamstring) didn't travel with High-A Dunedin for their road trip over the weekend.

In other words, Tulowitzki didn't suffer a setback with his hamstring. The 32-year-old is 3-for-8 (.375) with two RBI and two walks through three rehab games and will play in another one on Monday. However, it's unclear when he'll be activated. Tulowitzki has been sidelined since April 21 because of a right hamstring strain.

Marco Estrada was dominant on Sunday in Baltimore, holding the Orioles to one run while striking out 12 batters in the Blue Jays' 3-1 victory.

The one run he gave up came on a solo shot by Adam Jones in the bottom of the fourth inning. Estrada yielded just five hits in all and issued only one walk. He stands 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 70/16 K/BB ratio over 62 2/3 innings (10 starts) this season. Next up is a start at home versus the Rangers.
Sun, May 21, 2017 04:24:00 PM

Devon Travis finished 2-for-3 with three RBI in the Blue Jays' defeat of the Orioles on Sunday.

Travis slugged a three-run shot in the top of the first inning off Orioles starter Wade Miley and that's all the offense Toronto would need in the 3-1 victory. He also added a single for good measure in the top of the fourth. Travis has been on fire over the last week-plus but still owns an underwhelming .239/.278/.394 batting line for the year.
