Dexter Fowler was hitless in five at-bats with a pair of strikeouts in Tuesday's game at the L.A. Dodgers.

Fowler is hitless over his past 15 at-bats with five strikeouts to drop his average from .238 to .212 just since May 19. He'll look to snap his skid against left-hander Rich Hill and the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Lance Lynn allowed just one run, two hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters over eight innings in a no-decision Tuesday at the L.A. Dodgers.

Lynn threw 76 of his 123 pitches for strikeouts, matching Clayton Kershaw pitch for pitch in an exciting game from Dodger Stadium. He has posted quality starts in six of the past seven outings, lowering his ERA from 5.23 to 2.53 during the span. He'll look to snap his three-game winless drought when the Cardinals travel to Denver to face the Rockies on Sunday.

Cardinals released RHP Daniel Bard.

Bard had walked 19 batters in 8 2/3 innings this season with Double-A Springfield. The 31-year-old right-hander might have to take his talents to independent ball.

Kolten Wong (elbow) remains out of the Cardinals' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Dodgers.

Wong remains day-to-day with mild discomfort in his left elbow. He was probably going to sit anyway with the Dodgers throwing left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Jedd Gyorko is starting at second base and batting cleanup. Jhonny Peralta is at third base and batting sixth.

Cardinals optioned RHP Sam Tuivailala to Triple-A Memphis.

Tyler Lyons will take his place on the active roster as he returns from the disabled list. Tuivailala has compiled a 3.27 ERA and 8/5 K/BB ratio over 11 innings at the major league level this season.
Tue, May 23, 2017 03:42:00 PM

Cardinals activated LHP Tyler Lyons from the 10-day disabled list.

Lyons posted a 5.56 ERA with three home runs allowed in 11 1/3 innings, but the good news is that he's over his right intercostal strain. The 29-year-old will return to a middle relief role.

Aledmys Diaz finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored Sunday in the Cardinals' defeat of the Giants.

It was just the seventh walk in 173 plate appearances this season for Diaz, who's sporting a disappointing .261/.289/.400 batting line. We've seen more good than bad from him lately, though.
Sun, May 21, 2017 06:28:00 PM

Adam Wainwright held the Giants to one run over 6 1/3 innings Sunday in the Cardinals' 8-3 victory.

Wainwright also pitched well in his last start, delivering seven shutout innings against the rival Cubs. He gave up only five hits on Sunday (two doubles, three singles) while striking out six. Wainwright walked three. The veteran right-hander now has a 4-3 record, 4.81 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 42/20 K/BB ratio in 48 2/3 innings (nine starts) this season. He'll try to keep it rolling next time out at Coors Field.
Sun, May 21, 2017 06:24:00 PM

Randal Grichuk finished 2-for-4 with four RBI in the Cardinals' defeat of the Giants on Sunday.

Grichuk cleared the bases with a three-run double in the bottom of the second inning before tallying another RBI on a ground-rule double in the bottom of the eighth. The 25-year-old outfielder remains an inconsistent fantasy commodity, but the raw power is there. He has 13 doubles, four homers, and 19 RBI in 40 games.
Sun, May 21, 2017 06:20:00 PM

Kolten Wong (elbow) is not in the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

Wong tweaked his left (non-throwing) elbow on a swing Saturday. He's day-to-day. Greg Garcia is filling in at second base. The Cards are also giving Jedd Gyorko and Stephen Piscotty days off, as Jhonny Peralta is at third base and Tommy Pham and Randal Grichuk are occupying the corner outfield spots.
Sun, May 21, 2017 11:13:00 AM

Carlos Martinez allowed just two hits and a walk over nine scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Saturday.

Martinez matched scoreless frames with Jeff Samardzija in a pitcher's duel which didn't see the first runs until the 13th inning. The St. Louis right-hander has recorded five consecutive quality starts and he hasn't lost since April 20. Martinez has recorded 62 strikeouts over 57 2/3 innings this season and he has yielded just 19 hits over his past 26 frames.
Sun, May 21, 2017 01:33:00 AM

Jedd Gyorko finished 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and two strikeouts in Saturday's game against the Giants.

Gyorko has been red hot in the month of May, hitting safely in six straight and 13 of his past 14 outings. After hitting .333 in the month of April he is doing even better in May. The former standout at West Virginia University is hitting .328 with three homers and 10 RBI through 16 games in May.
Sun, May 21, 2017 01:21:00 AM

Greg Garcia entered Saturday's game against the Giants and he finished 3-for-4 with a double.

Garcia was forced into action when Kolten Wong (elbow) left with discomfort in his left elbow. If Wong is forced to miss time then Garcia might see regular starts, either at the hot corner or second base.
Sun, May 21, 2017 01:18:00 AM

Kolten Wong left Saturday's game against the Giants with left elbow discomfort.

Greg Garcia replaced Wong at second base to begin the fourth inning. Wong lined out to left field in his only at-bat of the night. Consider him day-to-day.

Trevor Rosenthal was unavailable Friday night due to arm soreness.

Rosenthal said that decision was made by the team's medical staff. It sounds like Rosenthal is just going through the usual wear and tear of a long season. The former closer has fared well in a setup role this year, producing a 2.93 ERA with a stellar 15.85 K/9 over 16 outings. Rosenthal should be available for Saturday's game against the Giants.
