Jose Reyes (ribs) went 1-for-5 with a run scored in his return to the Mets' lineup Tuesday.

Reyes was scratched from Sunday's series finale against the Angels due to tightness on the left side of his rib cage. It apparently wasn't anything serious.

Michael Conforto went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in the Mets' 9-3 victory over the Padres on Tuesday.

We thought the Mets made the wrong choice between Conforto and Jay Bruce this spring. It turns out that they're really fortunate to have both. Conforto now has 13 homers, 31 RBI and 34 runs scored in just 129 at-bats. HIs OPS stands at 1.138. The Mets' franchise record for OPS in a season is 1.024, established by Mike Piazza in 1998.

Matt Harvey won for the first time since April 11 after allowing two runs over five innings Tuesday against the Padres.

Harvey was given the wide-open layup in this one, as the Mets got him seven runs in the bottom of the first. It still wasn't easy for Harvey; he ended up walking four and throwing 103 pitches in five innings. His old form isn't coming back that quickly.

Lucas Duda finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI against the Padres on Tuesday.

Duda had been just 4-for-26 with no RBI in nine games since returning from the disabled list. Maybe this one will get him started.

Jay Bruce - OF - Mets

Jay Bruce left Tuesday's game against the Padres due to back tightness.

Bruce was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two strikeouts before getting replaced in the sixth inning by Juan Lagares. It's probably going to be a day-to-day thing.

Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring) will head out on a minor league rehab assignment before rejoining the Mets.

There was some thought that he might be allowed to skip that step, but the Mets are wise to slow-play this given that Cespedes has been on the shelf since late April. He's nearing the end of a running program and will then be cleared for minor league games. It's possible he could be ready for activation early next week.

Mets recalled LHP Josh Smoker from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Smoker will rejoin the Mets' bullpen with Hansel Robles headed to the minors. The southpaw owns a 7.88 ERA and 20/10 K/BB ratio over 16 innings with the big club this season.

Mets optioned RHP Hansel Robles to Triple-A Las Vegas.

It wasn't too long ago that Robles looked like one of the club's better relief arms, but he has been rocked for 12 runs on 10 hits (including four home runs) and four walks in his last three appearances. His ERA now stands at 6.23 for the year. Josh Smoker will take his place in the bullpen.

Seth Lugo (elbow) is set to make his second minor league rehab start on Tuesday.

Lugo, who is coming back from a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament, allowed two hits with no strikeouts and no walks over 3 2/3 scoreless innings in his first rehab start with High-A St. Lucie last Thursday. Assuming no setbacks, he appears on track for a return in the early part of June.

Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Binghamton.

Cabrera presumably won't need much time before he's deemed ready to return. The veteran shortstop has been sidelined since May 13 due to a lingering injury to his left thumb. Jose Reyes has been handling the bulk of the shortstop duties with Cabrera on the shelf.

Travis d'Arnaud (wrist) went 0-for-3 and caught six innings Monday in his latest minor league rehab game with Triple-A Las Vegas.

D'Arnaud is now 5-for-17 (.294) during his minor league rehab assignment while working his back from a bone bruise in his wrist. He's set to catch Steven Matz (elbow) on Tuesday, but he could be cleared to rejoin the Mets after that. The question is how the playing time will shake out with Rene Rivera, who has been surprisingly productive at the plate. D'Arnaud was batting .203/.288/.475 with four home runs an 16 RBI over 22 games prior to the injury.

Mets prospect Amed Rosario picked up two hits on Sunday for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Both of the hits were doubles. He's now hitting .360 in the PCL, and he's slugging .537, so yes, those hits are coming with some authority. Who knows when the Mets will decide to bring Rosario up, but everything he's done this spring suggests he's ready to contribute.

Travis d'Arnaud (wrist) went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored Sunday in a rehab game with Triple-A Las Vegas.

D'Arnaud, who is working back from a bone bruise in his wrist, is now 5-for-14 (.357) during his minor league rehab assignment. The expectation is that he will stick around to catch Steven Matz (elbow) on Tuesday, but he's not far off. Rene Rivera has been red-hot during his absence, so it will be interesting to see how Terry Collins balances the playing time moving forward.
Mon, May 22, 2017 11:42:00 AM

According to David Lennon of Newsday, the Mets are open to activating Steven Matz (elbow) after Tuesday's start with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Matz, who is working his way back from a flexor strain, allowed one run on two hits and two walks over three innings in his first rehab start at High-A St. Lucie last Thursday. Ideally he would get at least two more starts in the minors, but the state of the Mets' rotation could have them move up the timeline. Either way, Matz should be stashed away in most fantasy leagues.
Mon, May 22, 2017 10:04:00 AM

Curtis Granderson finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the Mets' loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Granderson went deep off Angels starter Jesse Chavez in the bottom of the fifth inning, and his double in the bottom of the sixth drove Chavez from the game. Granderson has finally begun to show some signs of life offensively, though he still owns a weak .169/.237/.338 overall batting line on the season.
