Ryan Braun is out of the Brewers' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Blue Jays.

Braun has gone 0-for-8 since returning May 21 from his left calf strain. Hernan Perez will start in left field and bat third on Wednesday versus Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman.

Eric Thames (legs) went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base on Tuesday night against the Blue Jays.

Thames has been bothered lately by soreness in both of his legs, but it's something he plans to continue playing through. The 30-year-old slugger is batting .309/.437/.662 with 13 home runs, 26 RBI, two stolen bases, and 39 runs scored in 40 games this season for Milwaukee.

Jimmy Nelson allowed four runs over five frames on Tuesday versus the Blue Jays.

Kendrys Morales launched a two-run homer off of Nelson, who gave up eight hits and a walk over his five innings. It was a step backward after he put together back-to-back terrific outings. Nelson has struck out nearly a batter per inning this season but holds a pedestrian 4.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. He’ll face the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Travis Shaw struck out in all four of his plate appearances to wear a Golden Sombrero in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Well, that's one way for your 11-game hitting streak to come to an end. Shaw is on pace for a 133/29 K/BB ratio this season but is also pacing for 32 home runs and 122 RBI.

Jonathan Villar had a two-RBI single and stole three bases in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Villar singled in two runs and stole two bases in the fifth inning and then stole another base after walking in the seventh. He's hitting just .220/.289/.345, but Villar is tied for fourth in baseball with his 12 steals and he's also swatted five home runs.

Junior Guerra (calf) told reporters that he is preparing to start Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Guerra allowed nine runs -- five earned -- on 17 hits and five walks over 11 1/3 innings on his two-game minor league rehab assignment between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Colorado Springs. He was very good for the Brewers in 2016, but the jury is still out on what kind of long-term major league starter he can be. Guerra strained his right calf on Opening Day this season and has been on the disabled list since.

Junior Guerra (calf) is expected to be activated from the disabled list this week.

Good news for the first-place Brewers. Guerra, who went down on Opening Day with a right calf strain, allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts and two walks in his second rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Colorado Springs. The Brewers haven't pinpointed a specific day, but he should return during the team's four-game series against the Diamondbacks later this week. Guerra was the team's best starter last season, putting up a 2.81 ERA over 20 starts.

Jonathan Villar went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

Villar managed his seventh double of the season against Jake Arrieta, but the Brewers' offense was largely stymied until the ninth inning, when they scored five runs. That late flurry could not prevent the 13-6 defeat. Even with his three hits on Sunday, Villar is still hitting just .220 through 44 games played and has struck out a whopping 55 times across 173 at-bats.

Travis Shaw went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

The Brewers finally got their offense revved up in the ninth inning, scoring five runs in the frame, with Shaw providing a two-run home run. Alas, all of this action merely drew the Brewers to within 13-6 (which would stand as the final score). Through 39 games played, the 27-year-old third baseman has turned in a very strong season, as he is hitting .290/.327/.555 with nine homers and 34 RBI.

Chase Anderson surrendered six runs on seven hits over four-plus innings in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

Anderson started off on the wrong foot by allowing three runs in the first inning. He would proceed to yield solitary runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings before being relieved of duty. Three of the six runs on his line scored via the home run, with Ben Zobrist burning him for a solo shot and Kris Bryant burning him for a pair. This was the third consecutive outing in which Anderson has failed to toss at least five innings. He will carry a 4.25 ERA and 1.46 WHIP into a home start against the Diamondbacks next time he takes to the mound.

Eric Thames was removed from Sunday's game against the Cubs due to cramping in his legs.

Thames has been battling hamstring and calf injuries, which seems consistent with what was acting up here. It still doesn't sound as though he'll require a trip to the disabled list, but it's the type of nagging injury that could continue to crop up on occasion.

Eric Thames was removed from Sunday's game against the Cubs with a potential injury.

Thames has been battling hamstring and calf injuries, for which he has been receiving regular treatment. He was hobbling after his RBI groundout in the fifth inning on Sunday which prompted manager Craig Counsell to take him out. Look for an update on his status shortly.

Brewers optioned RHP Tyler Cravy to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Cravy was only up for one day and that game was rained out. He returns to a 4.26 ERA at Colorado Springs.
Sun, May 21, 2017 12:10:00 PM

Brewers activated OF Ryan Braun from the 10-day disabled list.

He wound up missing just the minimum 10 days with a strained calf. Braun is in left field and batting third Sunday against Jake Arrieta and the Cubs.
Sun, May 21, 2017 11:49:00 AM

Brewers recalled RHP Tyler Cravy from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Paolo Espino was sent down in the corresponding move. Cravy hasn't done much to impress in the minors this year, contributing a 4.26 ERA across 14 appearances for Colorado Springs. He carries a lifetime ERA of 4.56 in the major leagues.
