Christian Yelich (hip) said Wednesday that he expects to avoid the disabled list.

Yelich exited Tuesday's game with right hip flexor tightness and he is not in the Marlins' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon in Oakland, but the issue is not believed to be serious. Marlins president Michael Hill echoed Yelich's optimism. Consider the center fielder day-to-day.

Christian Yelich (hip) is out of the Marlins' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Athletics.

No surprise after he left Tuesday night's game with a right hip flexor injury. Yelich is considered day-to-day for now. Marcell Ozuna is in center field, Tyler Moore is in left field, and Ichiro Suzuki is in right field on Wednesday afternoon at Oakland Coliseum. Giancarlo Stanton is serving as the Marlins' designated hitter and will bat second against A's right-hander Sonny Gray.

Justin Bour finished 4-for-5 with a double, solo home run, four runs scored and two RBI in Tuesday's win in Oakland.

Bour has hit safely in a season-high six consecutive games, raising his average to his highest mark of the season at .280. He has also driven in at least one run in five straight outings to make him a must-start in deeper mixed leagues while also serving as a mid-tier value in DFS play.

Giancarlo Stanton finished 3-for-6 with an RBI in Tuesday's game in Oakland.

Stanton has three multi-hit games through the first five outings of the team's west coast road trip. His current .269 is his highest mark since April 29 when he was hitting .274. He'll look to stay hot in Wednesday's series finale against Sonny Gray.

Dee Gordon finished 3-for-6 with a triple, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 11-9 win in Oakland.

Gordon has been a streaky hitter this season, and lately he is riding an impressive wave. He has four consecutive multi-hit games, collecting nine hits across 18 at-bats over the past four outings. He has raised his average from .245 to .271 just since May 18 as a result of the hot run.

Jose Urena allowed six earned runs, four hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a win Tuesday in Oakland.

Urena was staked to a 7-1 lead through three innings and he did his best to fritter away the huge cushion. Manager Don Mattingly let him stick around long enough to qualify for the win, but the real heroes in the game were on the Miami offense. Six Marlins recorded two or more hits.

Christian Yelich exited Tuesday's game versus the Athletics with a right hip flexor injury.

It's unclear when Yelich suffered the injury, and it seems like he was lifted for precautionary reasons. The Marlins are listing him as day-to-day. Yelich had a single and scored a run in five plate appearances Tuesday before departing.

Jeff Locke (biceps) is scheduled to make a fourth minor league rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Jacksonville.

If it goes well, it should be his last. Locke has registered a promising 2.51 ERA with 17 strikeouts and zero walks through 14 1/3 innings (three starts) in the minor leagues. The left-hander has been on the disabled list all season because of biceps tendinitis.

Wei-Yin Chen got a platelet-rich plasma injection Tuesday for his injured left elbow.

PRP treatment is supposed to help the healing process. Chen was placed on the disabled list May 5 with discomfort in his left elbow and he felt renewed tightness when he tried to throw a bullpen session 10 days later. Surgery has been ruled out for now, but there is no real timetable for the southpaw's return to the active major league roster in Miami.

Marlins recalled RHP Drew Steckenrider from Triple-A New Orleans.

Steckenrider has posted an impressive 1.25 ERA, 0.785 WHIP, and 26/8 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings of relief this season at Triple-A, but his stay in the bigs might not be a very long one. David Phelps was placed on the bereavement list in a corresponding 25-man roster move.

Marlins placed RHP David Phelps on the bereavement list.

Phelps will miss the Marlins' two-game series against the Athletics following a death in his family. The 30-year-old right-hander has posted a cool 3.68 ERA and 24/8 K/BB ratio in 22 innings of relief this season for Miami and could soon move into the starting rotation.

Justin Bour went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

Bour hit a leadoff home run against Kenley Jansen in the ninth inning to draw the Marlins to within 6-3. While that kept matters at least vaguely interesting, Bour's squad was unable to creep any closer, as that score held as the final. The 27-year-old first baseman is as locked in as any hitter in the game right now, having swatted six home runs in his last 10 games. He has cracked 11 homers and driven in 28 runs for the season as a whole.

Dee Gordon went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

The double was Gordon's sixth of the season. He also picked up a single, but struck out in his other two at-bats. The speedy second baseman has now turned in multi-hit performances in each of his last three games, but is hitting just .263/.319/.322 overall. While he does have 13 steals, at this juncture, base thefts are just about all he has going for him.
Sun, May 21, 2017 07:22:00 PM

Vance Worley yielded three runs on six hits over four innings in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.

Worley surrendered two of the three runs on his line in the first inning, when he coughed up a two-run double to Adrian Gonzalez. Joc Pederson would polish off the scoring on his line with a solo home run in the fourth inning. For the afternoon as a whole, the 29-year-old right-hander struck out just two while walking one. This was Worley's first start with the Marlins since they signed him to a minor league contract on April 2. He is next scheduled to start at home against the Angels. There is little fantasy intrigue, here, as Worley had been pitching to a 4.43 ERA in eight starts down at Triple-A New Orleans prior to being called up for Sunday's start.

J.T. Realmuto is absent from the Marlins' lineup Sunday.

It looks to be a simple day off. A.J. Ellis will do the catching.
