Lance McCullers lasted just five innings but got a win Tuesday, holding the Tigers scoreless in a 6-2 victory.

The only hit McCullers surrendered was a Miguel Cabrera infield single in the fourth inning. However, he walked a pair, hit a batter and struck out five to push his pitch count to 96 and Astros manager A.J. Hinch decided that was enough. He's gone seven frames just twice this season, but McCullers boasts a 2.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 65/17 K/BB ratio over 59 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Orioles at home on Sunday.

Jake Marisnick went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Marisnick struck out in his first plate appearance, but he picked up singles in his next three trips to the plate, with the final hit scoring the Astros' last run of the night. He now has two three-hit games in his last three starts and is hitting a surprising .296/.377/.537 on the season. It won't last, but Marisnick has probably earned a few more starts while his bat is hot given his plus glove.

Juan Centeno hit a solo homer and reached base three times Tuesday versus the Tigers.

The 27-year-old journeyman was making his first start in the majors, as he came up when Brian McCann went on the 7-day concussion DL. Even after the nice night, Centeno might be lucky to get one more start before McCann returns.

Yulieski Gurriel ripped a solo homer in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Gurriel hit a no-doubt, line-drive shot off of Jordan Zimmermann in the second inning that found the Crawford Boxes in a hurry. He also reached on a hit by pitch. It's been a struggle of late for the infielder, as Gurriel has seen his average drop from .293 to .269 over his last six games. Hopefully Tuesday's longball will get him going again.

Brian McCann (concussion) expects to resume hitting Wednesday.

He could also resume catching workouts on Wednesday or Thursday and might be ready to rejoin the Astros over the weekend. McCann was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list April 21, retroactive to May 20, after taking a hard foul tip off his mask in New York.

Dallas Keuchel (neck) plans to return to the Astros' rotation Saturday against the Orioles.

That's the first day he's eligible for activation from the 10-day disabled list. "I feel a lot better," Keuchel told reporters Tuesday. "The plan is still the same ... good for Saturday." The ace left-hander was 7-0 with a sensational 1.84 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 54/14 K/BB ratio in 63 2/3 innings before going down with a pinched nerve in his neck.

Carlos Correa is out of the Astros' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Tigers.

Correa is 0-for-8 with three strikeouts over his last two games. Marwin Gonzalez will play shortstop and bat fifth Tuesday versus Detroit right-hander Jordan Zimmermann. Evan Gattis is also on the bench Tuesday for Houston.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Correa's absence makes the Astros a slightly less appealing team target, but they still hold plenty of upside against Jordan Zimmermann. The right-hander hasn't had success against hitters from either side of the plate - he's allowing a .396 wOBA to LHs and a .389 mark to RHs, with a HR/9 rate over 2.00 against hitters from both sides. His GB% sits under 30% and he's been getting absolutely crushed by lefties to start the year with an absurdly high 39.4 Hd-Sft% (20.0 Hd-Sft% vs. RHs). Add in the fact that Zimmermann simply can't miss bats (14.0 K%) and you have a very nice recipe for under-owned upside with the Astros.

Chris Devenski earned a win Monday with 2 2/3 innings of no-hit ball against the Tigers.

Devenski relieved spot starter Brad Peacock in the top of the fifth inning and retired all seven batters he faced on just 26 pitches to keep the Astros' shutout alive. The 26-year-old right-hander struck out two batters and now boasts an outstanding 46/7 K/BB ratio in 27 innings this season, along with a 2.67 ERA and 0.74 WHIP.

Ken Giles nailed down his 12th save of the season Monday in the Astros' 1-0 defeat of the Tigers.

Giles struck out two of the three batters he faced in the top of the ninth inning to finish off a combined shutout that was initiated by Brad Peacock's terrific spot start. Giles has a 3.44 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 23/7 K/BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings this season, and he's 12-for-13 in save opportunities for the American League West-leading Astros.

Brad Peacock worked 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball in a spot start Monday versus the Tigers.

Peacock was rushed into emergency starting duties after Dallas Keuchel landed on the 10-day disabled list this weekend with a pinched nerve in his neck. The right-hander allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out eight of the 16 batters he faced. A dominant force this season out of the Houston bullpen, Peacock now boasts a 0.87 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 20 2/3 total innings. It's not clear whether he is going to get another start.

Astros recalled RHP Jordan Jankowski from Triple-A Fresno.

Jankowski, 28, has complied a 1.42 ERA with four saves and a 22/9 K/BB ratio over 19 innings in Triple-A this season. He'll be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.

The Astros will call up right-hander Jordan Jankowski from Triple-A Fresno on Monday, reports Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.

The Astros have yet to make an official announcement and they will have to make a corresponding roster move in order to add him to the 40-man roster. Jankowski, 28, owns a 1.42 ERA with four saves and a 22/9 K/BB ratio over 19 innings in Triple-A this season. This will be his first call-up to the majors.

Jose Altuve clubbed his seventh home run of the season in a losing effort against the Indians on Sunday afternoon.

His two-run shot off of Danny Salazar pulled the Astros to within 8-3 in the fourth inning. It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the day. The hard-hitting second baseman is now hitting .307/.377/.509 with seven homers, 21 RBI and nine stolen bases.
Sun, May 21, 2017 05:18:00 PM

Joe Musgrove was obliterated in Sunday's loss to the Indians, giving up seven runs on eight hits in three-plus innings of work.

Musgrove also issued three walks while striking out four on the forgettable afternoon. Yan Gomes was responsible for most of the damage, with a run-scoring double in the second inning and a three-run blast in the third. Musgrove now owns a disappointing 5.63 ERA and 1.55 WHIP on the season. He'll look for better results when he does battle against the Orioles at home on Friday.
Sun, May 21, 2017 05:18:00 PM

Astros purchased the contract of C Juan Centeno from Triple-A Fresno.

He'll provide depth with Brian McCann (concussion) out. Centeno, 27, was off to a nice .368/.395/.487 start for Fresno.
