Avisail Garcia (flu) is back in the White Sox starting lineup Wednesday afternoon in Arizona.

He'll start in right field and bat fifth against Diamondbacks right-hander Randall Delgado after missing Tuesday's game with a mild case of the flu. Garcia boasts a .971 OPS with eight home runs and 34 RBI over 43 games this season for Chicago.

Todd Frazier finished 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's game at Arizona.

It was just the fifth homer of the season for Frazier, who has been a bit of a disappointment since coming over from the Reds after the 2015 season. While he belted a career-high 40 homers last year on the south side, he posted a career-worst .225. This season he is hitting a paltry .192, although he is showing signs of life with eight hits over his past 30 hits (.267).

Jose Abreu finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's game at Arizona.

Abreu was ice cold out of the chute, failing to hit his first home run of the season until April 29. Since then he has started to make up for lost time, belting nine homers over the past 23 outings. He has also hit safely in each of the past five and eight of the past nine.

Dylan Covey made an early exit from his start Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks due to left oblique soreness.

Covey had allowed four earned runs on five hits over 2 1/3 innings at Arizona's Chase Field. The right-hander owns a brutal 8.12 ERA in 37 2/3 innings this season and is probably headed for the 10-day disabled list even if the oblique injury proves to be minor.

Dylan Covey left his start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks after suffering an apparent injury.

Covey called for a trainer after delivering a curveball to Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the third inning. The right-hander allowed four earned runs on five hits over 2 1/3 frames. There should be an update soon from the White Sox medical staff.

Avisail Garcia is out of the White Sox starting lineup Tuesday due to the flu.

It could be a multi-day absence for Garcia, who's off to a tremendous start in 2017. Willy Garcia is starting in right field and batting seventh Tuesday night against Diamondbacks left-hander Patrick Corbin.

Avisail Garcia has been scratched from the White Sox starting lineup on Tuesday night.

No word yet on the reason for the sudden change. Willy Garcia is now starting in right field and batting seventh versus Diamondbacks left-hander Patrick Corbin.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: The Diamondbacks are the clear team of interest offensively in this one, but the White Sox have some appeal as well in hitter friendly Chase Field. Patrick Corbin has been much better at home this season compared to last, but he's still allowing plenty of hard contact to RHs at home (35.9 hard%) and it wouldn't be at all surprising to see a few of the Chicago RH bats post mouthwatering fantasy totals here. A surging Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier are all fine targets.

Miguel Gonzalez surrendered five runs -- four earned -- over five-plus innings Monday as the White Sox fell to the Diamondbacks.

Daniel Descalso tagged Gonzalez for a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and Paul Goldschmidt added a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth. Gonzalez is now 3-5 with a 4.55 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through nine starts this season. He has a weak 33/20 K/BB ratio in 55 1/3 innings.

Melky Cabrera went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Monday as the White Sox lost to the Diamondbacks.

The 32-year-old outfielder is now batting just .234/.285/.310 in 40 games this season for Chicago. Melky batted .296/.345/.455 in 151 games last season.

Nate Jones (elbow) appeared in a simulated game Monday.

Jones has been on the shelf for nearly three weeks with right elbow neuritis. It's not clear whether he'll require a rehab assignment before being activated, but it doesn't look like the veteran reliever is far off from a return.

Carlos Rodon (biceps) threw another simulated game at extended spring training Monday.

Rodon threw 60 pitches in 15-pitch intervals, getting up and down four times. It's his fourth since he began ramping up his throwing program after going down with bursitis in his left biceps. Rodon admitted Monday that the rehab process has been "frustrating" for him, but it does appear he's making real progress. As far as what that might mean for a potential rehab assignment, it's not clear at this point.

Jake Petricka (lat) threw live batting practice at extended spring training Monday.

It's the first time he's faced hitters since he went down with a strained lat in his first appearance of the season. Petricka is starting a throwing program over from scratch, so it will be a while.

White Sox prospect Yoan Moncada is having his sore left thumb examined Monday in Chicago.

It's considered a routine exam, so there's no cause for concern. No structural damage was found through X-rays and an MRI, so he should be back in action fairly soon. The 21-year-old was batting .331/.401/.504 with six homers and 10 steals through 34 games in Triple-A prior to the injury. His time is coming soon.

White Sox prospect Nick Burdi pitched a scoreless inning on Sunday for Triple-A Charlotte.

Burdi did allow a hit, but he also struck out two hitters. Those strikeouts give him 27 on the season, and he's done it in just under 18 innings. With one of the best fastballs in minor-league baseball and a plus slider, Burdi has the stuff to be a dominant closer. When you add in his above-average change? You could be looking at a special reliever.
Mon, May 22, 2017 02:28:00 PM

White Sox pitching prospect Reynaldo Lopez gave up just one run in his six innings of work on Sunday for Triple-A Charlotte.

Lopez gave up just three hits on the afternoon, and he struck out five hitters while walking just one. That start pushed his ERA down to 2.94, and he's striking out more than a hitter an inning in the International League. Long story short, he's probably ready to face big-league hitters for the surprising White Sox.
