Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored in the Red Sox's 11-6 win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Incredibly, Bogaerts still doesn't have a homer this season after hitting 21 last year. What he does have is a .329 average, giving him an .840 OPS even though he's never left the yard. Still, homers would help him out a bunch in the other fantasy categories, particularly in RBI; he's driven in just 15 runs in 40 games this year after coming in at 89 in 157 games in 2016.

Rick Porcello picked up his third win after allowing five runs -- four earned -- and 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Rangers.

Porcello has been anything but stellar of late, but this would have gone down as a quality start had John Farrell lifted him after six innings. Instead, Farrell pressed his luck and was fortunate that Porcello was charged with just two runs after four of the five Rangers to bat against him reached base. If nothing else, Porcello has gone six innings in nine of his 10 starts. He has a fine 62/12 K/BB ratio in 62 innings, but he leads the AL with 77 hits allowed.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Brian Johnson is a "strong candidate" to start Saturday against the Mariners.

Johnson struggled in his one start this season at the major league level, but the 26-year-old left-hander owns a decent 2.82 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 37/17 K/BB ratio over 44 2/3 innings (seven starts) this season with Triple-A Pawtucket. He's been in the minors since April 19.

Pablo Sandoval (knee) is out of the lineup at Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday due to illness.

That will delay his return to the Red Sox active roster by a couple of days. Sandoval needs to play back-to-back minor league games before the club considers activating him off the disabled list. He's been out since April 24 because of a right knee strain.

Brock Holt (vertigo) will visit a specialist in Pittsburgh sometime this week.

Holt continues to experience vertigo symptoms and has officially been pulled off his minor league rehab assignment. The utilityman has been on the disabled list since April 21 and remains out indefinitely.

Marco Hernandez is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left shoulder Friday.

And the subsequent rehab will take several months, likely stretching into the offseason. Hernandez injured his left shoulder during a May 3 game against the Orioles.

Red Sox optioned RHP Hector Velazquez to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The newly-promoted Sam Travis will take his place on the active roster. The Red Sox were already planning to skip Velazquez's next turn after he was knocked around for six runs over five innings against the A's last Thursday.

Red Sox purchased the contract of 1B Sam Travis from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Red Sox sent down Hector Velazquez to clear a spot on the active roster. Travis got off to a slow start in April, but he was batting .333/.389/.561 with three home runs and 13 RBI this month. He's likely to see most of his at-bats against left-handers in his first stint in the majors.

Red sox prospect Teddy Stankiewicz threw seven scoreless innings on Sunday for Double-A Portland.

Stankiewicz struck out just three, but he scattered five hits and walked just two on his day. A 2013 second-round pick, Stankiewicz has struggled at times, but his 2017 campaign has given some reason for optimism. He has two above-average pitches in his fastball and slider, and his command has been much better this spring. He's still just 23, so there's reason to believe -- or at least hope -- he's found another gear.

Mitch Moreland went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the A's.

Moreland connected for a two-run home run off Andrew Triggs in the sixth inning, his fifth of the season and his third in as many days. He has driven in five runs in that three-game space and now owns a .250/.352/.454 triple-slash over the course of 152 at-bats.

Hanley Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the A's.

Ramirez hit a two-run double as part of a five-run ninth inning which helped the Red Sox pull away for an easy 12-3 win. In 35 games played this season, the slugger is slashing .273/.350/.445 with six homers and 20 RBI. He scalded the A's with five hits over his final eight at-bats on Saturday and Sunday, with a home run and a double among that bushel of knocks.
Sun, May 21, 2017 07:50:00 PM

Eduardo Rodriguez surrendered three runs on six hits over eight innings in Sunday's win over the A's.

Rodriguez struck out eight and walked one in the contest. He gave up an RBI single to Josh Phegley in the second inning and a two-run home run to Chad Pinder in the fourth, but settled in to toss up goose eggs over his final four innings of work. The southpaw will bring a 3.10 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 55/18 K/BB ratio (49 1/3 innings) into a home start against the Mariners next time he toes the rubber.

The Red Sox will skip Hector Velazquez's next turn in the rotation.

Drew Pomeranz will move up to start Wednesday on regular rest. Velazquez was lit up for six runs over five innings in his major league debut last Thursday and might be sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket soon.

Red Sox recalled RHP Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Workman tossed three scoreless frames in a relief appearance earlier this month with the big club. He'll work in middle relief.
Sun, May 21, 2017 01:00:00 PM

Red Sox optioned RHP Noe Ramirez to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Ramirez gave up two runs over three innings in a relief appearance Saturday in his brief stint in the majors. Brandon Workman has replaced him in the Red Sox' bullpen.
