The Washington Post expects Pierre Garcon to play "X" receiver in new coach Jay Gruden's offense, with DeSean Jackson at "Z."
"Z" was A.J. Green's position in Gruden's Bengals offense. It commanded a team-high 178 targets last season. The "X" position was manned by Marvin Jones, who finished with 80 targets. Garcon will play a lot more snaps than Jones did, but this is something to keep in mind with a new offense being installed in D.C. It's conceivable that Garcon will be less of a featured player under Gruden, essentially sharing the role with D-Jax. The Post anticipates third receiver Andre Roberts handling duties similar to Mohamed Sanu's (77 targets). Jul 17 - 11:45 AM

ESPN Redskins writer John Keim wouldn't be surprised if DeSean Jackson ends up third on the team in catches.

We completely agree. Pierre Garcon is the sturdier player capable of running a wider route tree as Jay Gruden's new A.J. Green. TE Jordan Reed is dripping with talent. Note that prior to last season's outlier under Chip Kelly, Jackson had never topped 62 catches or 1,200 yards in a season, and often battled nagging injuries. He could very well be a clear-out deep threat for Gruden, opening up the middle of the field for Garcon and Reed.

Pierre Garcon says Robert Griffin III is "not fully healthy, obviously," and "a lot different" from his rookie campaign.

"It’s just playing with injuries," Garcon said of Griffin's comeback from knee surgery. "Everybody is hurt in the NFL. ... (It's) just something you’ve got to deal with when you’re in the league and during the season." RGIII has attempted just 15 rushes through his first three games after averaging eight per contest in 2012. Washington's read-option plays were a little more frequent and crisper on Sunday, but the 'Skins still aren't close to running the offense they featured last season.
