Road course ace Victor Gonzalez Jr. will join Niece Motorsports behind the wheel of the No. 45 truck for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in September.

Although the start will mark Gonzalez’s first behind the wheel in the NCWTS, he is no stranger to NASCAR, having made two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starts in 2013 at Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen International. Additionally, Gonzalez has seven NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) starts under his belt, coming at Montreal, Phoenix International Raceway, Road America and Watkins Glen International between 2009 and 2012. Four of Gonzalez’s starts resulted in top-20 finishes, with his best finish of 14th coming at Montreal in 2009.-Niece Motorsports

Armstrong has a best XFINITY Series finish of 16th at the Concord, North Carolina track which occurred in both Charlotte events during the 2015 season. Dakoda finished 21st and 19th in the two events at Charlotte last season in the No. 28 Toyota.-Integrity Sports Marketing

RSS Racing is thrilled to welcomes Data Link and Hang N Out portable trash cans as co-primary sponsors for Ryan Sieg at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The #39 team will also have Mike D’s BBQ and Super Sod as a major associate sponsors for the race weekend in Charlotte. Sieg currently sits 13th in points after a terrific race in Talladega where Sieg contended for a top 5 before finishing 12th. "Charlotte is always a fun track and it really it fits my driving style. We went and tested there a few weeks ago and feel like we learned a lot. It’s always a competitive field at Charlotte with some added cup drivers but we are always up for the challenge," commented Sieg.-RSS Racing

Currently sitting third in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings, William Byron (No. 9 Axalta Chevrolet Camaro) goes into the weekend with one previous start at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Truck Series, where he sat on the pole and finished 10th.

The Charlotte native participated in a test session at the 1.5-mile speedway earlier this month, which was the first time Byron had been in an XFINITY Series car at the track. In his three previous starts on 1.5-mile tracks this season, the 19-year-old has an average starting position of 8.3 and an average finishing position of 9.3.-JR Motorsports

With four top-10 finishes, including three top 10s in a row, and a best finish of seventh, Michael Annett (No. 5 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet Camaro) currently sits in the sixth position in the NASCAR XFINITY Series point standings.

The Iowa native has 10 NXS starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway with two top-10 finishes. Annett finished 10th in 2012 and 2013. In nine NXS Series starts in 2017, Annett has completed 99.8 percent of the laps attempted, led six laps, and has an average finish of 13.0, which is fourth best among series regulars.-JR Motorsports

For an eighth consecutive week, Elliott Sadler (No. 1 Armour Vienna Sausage 150 Years Chevrolet Camaro) leads the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship point standings. Sadler is currently 29 points ahead of teammate Justin Allgaier.

In 20 starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Sadler has five top-five and nine top-10 finishes, with one pole award. So far this season, Sadler has one top-five and three top-10 finishes in three starts at mile-and-a-half tracks. Last fall at Charlotte, the Virginia native finished runner-up in the 300-mile NXS event.-JR Motorsports

In 13 NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Justin Allgaier (No. 7 Breyers Chevrolet Camaro) has three top-five and eight top-10 finishes, with a best finish of third (2010).

Last year, the 30-year-old driver finished fifth in the spring race and sixth in the fall at CMS. This season, the Illinois native’s best finish at a 1.5-mile speedway came at Las Vegas. He finished fourth. Allgaier currently sits second in the NXS point standings, just 29 points behind teammate Sadler. This season he has one victory (Phoenix), two stage wins and a series-leading seven playoff points.-JR Motorsports

Cole Whitt will attempt to score his first career top-25 at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend in the No. 72 Tri Star Motorsports Chevrolet.

That is within the realm of possibilities because Whitt has four results of 27th or 28th in eight previous starts there. Last week, he finished 26th on the similarly-configured Kansas Speedway and needs just a little racing luck to get that one extra position.

Last fall, Kyle Busch finished sixth in the Bank of America 500, which was the first time in his last three attempts at Charlotte Motor Speedway that he cracked the top 10.

Busch came close in the 2015 Coke 600 with an 11th, but his fall 2015 attempt and last May managed a best of 20th. Busch has been mostly strong on this course, but he lacks consistency and has not strung four consecutive top-10s together since 2010.

Ryan Blaney has a current six-race, top-20 streak going on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks with a worst result of 18th at Atlanta in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 this spring.

Blaney has finished worse than he started in all of those races, but two of his last three efforts have been promising. He led the field to green last week at Kansas Speedway and lost only three positions before the end to finish fourth. At Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March, he started third and dropped four positions to seventh, so he should contend for a top-10 this week in the Coke 600.

David Ragan finished 17th at Kansas Speedway last week, which was his first top-20 on a similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track in his last 17 attempts.

To find the most recent one before the 400, one has to scroll back to Chicagoland Speedway in 2015 when he was driving the No. 55 Michael Waltrip Racing car. Last week was also the first time he was able to complete all the laps on this course type, so he is not exactly one of this week’s top dark horses.
Tue, May 23, 2017 11:41:00 PM

For the first time in his last five attempts, Timmy Hill was running at the end of a race on one of NASCAR similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks at the end of the 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Hill finished eight laps off the pace, but with attrition that gave him a 28th-place result. He has made two prior starts on this track type this season with a broken suspension at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and blown engine at Texas Motor Speedway. In 2015, he failed to qualify in his last two attempts.

In 10 NASCAR XFINITY Series starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet) has completed 1,943 of 1,979 (98.2 percent) laps that he has competed.

He has led seven laps, accumulated one top-five and two top-10 finishes, and averages a starting position of 20.1 and a finishing position of 14.9. Gaughan also has eight NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts at the 1.5-mile speedway. In those eight starts, the 41-year-old driver has earned three top-five and four top-10 finishes.-Richard Childress Racing
