Rangers signed 2B Rougned Odor to a six-year, $49.5 million contract extension with a $13.5 million club option for 2023.

The deal was agreed to on Saturday and then finalized Thursday as the Rangers packed up camp in Surprise, Arizona. It will cover Odor's first three years of arbitration eligibility (2018-2020) and at least two years of free agency, at a fairly reasonable cost. The 23-year-old second baseman tallied 33 home runs, 88 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and 89 runs scored in 150 games last season.

Austin Pruitt has won a spot in the Rays' bullpen.

Pruitt is going to work in a multi-inning role, per Rays manager Kevin Cash. The 27-year-old right-hander posted a promising 3.76 ERA, 1.186 WHIP, and 149/27 K/BB ratio in 162 2/3 innings (28 starts) last season at Triple-A Durham. A ninth-round pick in 2013 out of the University of Houston, he'll be making his MLB debut.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Cardinals "have quietly showed interest" in White Sox starter Jose Quintana.

Heyman notes that the Astros and Pirates have been the perceived frontrunners for Quintana, but he calls their pursuits of the left-handed ace "passive" up to this point. In his report Heyman then labels the Cardinals a "sleeper team," with the "combination of young players and prospects to make it work." The asking price is undoubtedly sky-high for Quintana, who boasts a 3.35 ERA over the last four seasons and a team-friendly contract that runs through 2020. He is currently projected to serve as the Opening Day starter for the rebuilding White Sox.

Red Sox placed LHP Drew Pomeranz on the 10-day disabled list with a left flexor strain.

Pomeranz remains on track to make his first regular-season start April 9 in Detroit. He was slowed this spring by some triceps discomfort, but the left-hander threw 76 pitches in a Grapefruit League start against the Twins on Wednesday and he should get up to 90 pitches in his next outing -- wherever that might be.
Mar 30 - 10:20 AM

Yankees manager Joe Girardi named Aaron Judge the club's starting right fielder.

There were hints that the Yankees might send Judge back to the minor leagues for more seasoning, but Girardi officially backed the 24-year-old on Thursday as he announced the club's final roster decisions. While far from a completer hitter, Judge should be able to post big power numbers this season for New York -- and thus carries deep-league fantasy intrigue. Aaron Hicks will open the year as a kind of utility outfielder.
Mar 30 - 10:16 AM

Luis Severino has been named the Yankees' fourth starter.

Severino nailed down the job by posting a 3.95 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 16/5 K/BB ratio in 13 2/3 innings this spring in Grapefruit League play. The talented 23-year-old right-hander carries some deep-league fantasy appeal into the 2017 regular season.
Mar 30 - 10:11 AM

Twins optioned C John Ryan Murphy to Triple-A Rochester.

Chris Gimenez will back up Jason Castro to open the year. Murphy, 25, posted a brutal .146/.193/.220 batting line in 90 plate appearances last season at the major league level.
Mar 30 - 10:01 AM

Twins placed LHP Ryan O'Rourke on the 10-day disabled list with a left elbow injury.

O'Rourke was diagnosed last week with a flexor mass strain in his throwing elbow. The southpaw is likely to miss most of April.
Mar 30 - 9:58 AM

Twins placed INF Ehire Adrianza on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.

Adrianza suffered the oblique strain last weekend in a Grapefruit League game and figures to miss about two weeks of regular-season action. The 27-year-old infielder carries no fantasy relevance as a .220/.292/.313 career hitter.
Mar 30 - 9:56 AM

Rays re-signed LHP Jonny Venters to a minor league contract.

Venters is trying to work his way back from the third Tommy John surgery of his career. The left-hander will continue rehabbing under the Rays' umbrella.
Mar 30 - 9:38 AM

Adalberto Mejia will open the 2017 regular season as the Twins' fifth starter.

Mejia secured the job with a 1.88 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings this spring. The 23-year-old right-hander might carry some value in AL-only fantasy leagues, but mixed leaguers can probably do better.
Mar 30 - 9:30 AM

Yankees optioned INF/OF Rob Refsnyder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

There have been trade rumors swirling around Refsnyder all spring, but the Yankees have not been able to finalize a deal. The 26-year-old former prospect batted just .250/.328/.309 in 175 plate appearances last season at the major league level and he also struggled at the dish this spring.
Mar 30 - 9:25 AM

Rays optioned RHP Chase Whitley to Triple-A Durham.

Whitley posted a 4.15 ERA in one start and five relief appearances this spring in the Grapefruit League. He's presumably going to work out of the rotation at Durham.
Mar 30 - 9:21 AM

Rays optioned RHP Jaime Schultz to Triple-A Durham.

Schultz will work as a reliever at Durham, giving him a quicker path to the major league level. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a promising 3.58 ERA with 163 strikeouts over 130 2/3 innings last season in Triple-A.
Mar 30 - 9:16 AM

Twins reassigned OF J.B. Shuck to minor league camp.

Shuck was in Twins camp this spring on a non-guaranteed minor league contract after batting just .205/.248/.299 across 241 plate appearances last season with the White Sox. The 29-year-old will function as organizational outfield depth for Minnesota.
