Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said he wants Rodney McGruder to become a better ball handler and 3-point shooter.
"I think his ability now to put the ball on the floor, make plays, is something that we tried to utilize at the end of the year," Spoelstra said. "His 3-point spacing already has dramatically improved. I remember watching him in his first summer league three years ago. We liked his competitiveness, but he was an absolute non-shooter at that time. He willed himself." McGruder averaged 0.9 triples on a 33.2 percent clip, so he has a good foundation to build on. He isn't a stat stuffer and will have to compete with a healthy Justise Winslow next season, and it's hard to see him matching the 25.2 minutes per game he played in 2016-17.
