The AFC Bournemouth defense made a mistake that gave Manchester United the opening goal and would eventually concede twice more, but Adam Smith salvaged a goal in a 1-3 loss to the Red Devils.
Eddie Howe chose to begin the match with Max Gradel and Benick Afobe on the bench, and it may have cost them as the Cherries failed to take advantage of a United side that did not start the match with a very fluid attack. Then, in the 40th minute, Simon Francis made a meal of a back pass that allowed the Red Devils to punish them with the opening goal. Artur Boruc managed to make a couple of decent saves, including a cannon free kick by Zlatan Ibrahimovic but Bournemouth were 0-3 down before Smith answered back, firing into the top corner after sprinting into the area and latching onto a pass from Lewis Grabban. The Cherries defense conceded more than two goals a game on average last season and have once again started poorly in that area. Now they must travel to battle a pretty strong West Ham attack in Week 2. Sun, Aug 14, 2016 10:37:00 AM
