Fantasy Race to Dubai

Dave Tindall is our main man in Europe. In addition to his weekly previews of European Tour events on Mondays, he’ll share his selections and analysis for the Fantasy Race to Dubai at EuropeanTour.com.

Format: Pick 6 golfers. Players accumulate points based on Race to Dubai (R2D) points earned. Captain’s points are doubled. Unlimited team changes can be made each week.

Team Tindall (Team name: YESSIR!)

Last week: Bit of a nothing week with surprise results everywhere. Dropped a couple hundred spots.

Position: 3,402

This week:

Justin Rose (captain): Masters runner-up has also twice finished second at Wentworth. Would love to add this event to CV and revamped, smoother greens are likely to suit him.

Alex Noren: T8 at Wentworth two years ago and T10 at Sawgrass was huge confidence booster in Swede’s bid to crack America after four-win season in Europe last year.

Francesco Molinari: Four top 10s at Wentworth from 2012 to 2015 would get him a pick regardless. Appeals even more thanks to connecting three top 25s on PGA TOUR, highlighted by top six at Sawgrass.

Tommy Fleetwood: Enjoying career season and strong play continued with second place in China two starts ago. Made top six at Wentworth in 2015, fuelled by Saturday 65.

Tyrrell Hatton: Home English golfers have won five of last eight editions so Hatton joins Rose and Fleetwood on the team. Superb in Florida earlier this season and T7 at Wentworth 12 months ago.

Henrik Stenson: Recovered from strange dip (four MCs) with T16 at Sawgrass and can kick on again on first start in England since winning Claret Jug. T7 on last Wentworth start in 2014.

Matt Cooper is part of our European team. He contributes to player news, and he’ll share his selections and analysis for the Fantasy Race to Dubai at EuropeanTour.com.

Team Cooper (Team name: NormanStanleyFletcher)

Last week: The good news – my contention that Doha-form was a good fit for Verdura. The bad news – why, then, did I not pick Doha winner (and two-time runner-up) Alvaro Quiros?!?!

Position: 1,696th

Justin Rose (captain): I have a feeling he’ll enjoy the changes and will be keen to get back on the horse after exiting Sawgrass with an 80. Two-time runner-up on the West Course.

Francesco Molinari: I’ll forgive his T55 last year. Before that he was top ten four years on the spin and his recent results are excellent, including T6 at THE PLAYERS.

Henrik Stenson: He may take some persuading to play this event, but it’s not a place he cannot play, as the T7 last time he came proves. Plus, if I drop him and he wins, that’ll hurt with the vast majority of gamers on him.

Tommy Fleetwood: Tee to green is his strength and it’s what is required at Wentworth. Should be feeling great about his game and had a T6 here two years ago.

Byeong Hun An: Winner two years ago saw him breakthrough after a stellar amateur career. Played nicely in the Wells Fargo and Byron Nelson (T8-T6). Can see him going close again.

Alex Noren: Wonderful 2016 on the European Tour and impressed to see him convert that form into improved efforts Stateside. Plenty of West Course experience (including two top tens) and now could be the time to push on and contend.
