Expert Picks: Volvo China Open

Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at Rotoworld.com.

With the Zurich Classic opting for a team format, there aren't manys fantasy formats active this week, making the Volvo China Open the main attraction for gamers this week. There will be no Yahoo or Golf Channel picks this week. Instead this is how the picks will be laid out:

Page 1 will feature our selections for the Fantasy Race to Dubai.
Page 2 will go over DraftKings picks for the Volvo China Open as well as One-and-Done for the Zurich Classic.

Before we look ahead, Mo Yoshimoto takes a look at last week's action in his Valero Texas Open Recap.

Now for the picks...

Fantasy Race to Dubai

Dave Tindall is our main man in Europe. In addition to his weekly previews of European Tour events on Mondays, he’ll share his selections and analysis for the Fantasy Race to Dubai at EuropeanTour.com.

Format: Pick 6 golfers. Players accumulate points based on Race to Dubai (R2D) points earned. Captain’s points are doubled. Unlimited team changes can be made each week.

Team Tindall (Team name: YESSIR!)

Last week: Inexplicably left out Wiesberger but still managed a jump of 300 spots thanks to Fleetwood (captain), Fisher and Levy.

Position: 3,720

This week:

Dean Burmester (captain): Horrid 6-7 finish when his chance had gone but had entered R4 in top three last week. Big-hitting South African should relish this test with scoring low and can follow up recent Tshwane Open win.

Alexander Levy: Superb record in China, enhanced by T8 at Shenzhen last week. Was T12 with 18 to play here last year before R4 drift. Close to captain’s pick.

Thorbjorn Olesen: Top 10 last week made it five top 20s in his last six starts in China. T15 on this course last year and capable of landing the big cheques.

George Coetzee: But for final-hole disaster, would have made play-off last week. Three top 12s in last four starts in China so can thrive again on course debut.

Ross Fisher: One of European golf’s form players and up to fifth on the Race to Dubai after last week’s T3 at Shenzhen. Has to be followed again.

Bernd Wiesberger: Can’t leave him out again even though the horse has bolted.

Team Cooper (Team name: NormanStanleyFletcher)

Last week: A nice little recovery with the top two on board and the captain in the top ten. More of the same needed to repair the Masters damage.

Position: 2,564th

Alexander Levy (captain): 11-for-11 in China, five top tens in there, a good T8 last week and a neat enough T28 on the course last year.

Lucas Bjerregaard: Didn’t quite happen last week (T53) but that is one of just two times in nine visits to China he hasn’t made the top 25. T3 on the course last year and showed enough in Morocco to prove the form is close.

Bernd Wiesberger: “11-for-11 in China” I wrote last week. He made that 12-for-12 in the best way possible (with the W) and absolutely no reason to lift the chips this week.

Ross Fisher: Last week’s T3 was his sixth top six finish in China and although his Topwin record is not immediately great (T44) he posted 67-68 in the middle rounds. The win looks close.

Fabrizio Zanotti: Yet another who likes China. T9 at the course last year and T5 last week.

Joost Luiten: 10-for-10 in strokeplay currently and the last nine of those are all top 30 without a top ten. Got to think he’ll break that trend soon and although only T44 on the course last year he did open with a 67 so he can get it done.
