Expert Picks: Arnie's Invite

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at Rotoworld.com.

Here is a quick rundown of what sites and formats we will cover each week:

Page 1 will feature all of our selections for GolfChannel.com and Yahoo! Fantasy Golf.
Page 2 will go over One-and-Done as well as Daily Fantasy Golf picks.
The European Tour is quiet this week, so Page 3 will return when the Fantasy Race to Dubai resumes.

Before we look ahead, Mo Yoshimoto takes a look at last week's action in his Valspar Championship Recap.

Now for the picks...

Henrik Stenson ($33,300)
Zach Johnson ($22,700)
Kevin Na ($21,800)
Jason Kokrak ($11,400)
Ian Poulter ($6,600)
Curtis Luck ($3,700)

ANALYSIS:  Sticking with a lot of course history for the most part with Stenson and Poulter both providing some local knowledge, to boot. The wildcard is Curtis Luck, the Australian amateur brings a lot of potential so I'm willing to pay four pennies for him.

Last Week Rank: 8,258

Henrik Stenson ($33,300)
Jason Day ($33,300)
Martin Laird ($10,900)
Lucas Glover ($8,400)
Bud Cauley ($7,300)
Ben Martin ($6,300)

ANALYSIS:  Day and Stenson pack a formidable punch at the top of the order with plenty of bermuda specialists rounding out the bottom two-thirds of the roster.

Mori Yoshimoto

Last Week Rank: 14,895

Rory McIlroy ($33,300)

Matthew Fitzpatrick ($27,500)

Tony Finau ($16,700)

Martin Laird ($10,900)

Morgan Hoffmann ($7,100)

Brandon Hagy ($4,500)

ANALYSIS: Mo has gone with a lot of heavy artillery for this squad... and then Matthew Fitzpatrick. A good mix of course history, current form, and raw skill.

*Make sure you check our Twitter accounts for any updates before the first tee ball flies on Thursday. Change in weather, tee times, etc. can always lead to last-minute changes and we will let you know through our social media channels.

API Strategy: Without much wind in the Thursday/Friday forecast and a smaller field, I don't see a huge tee-time advantage this week. Of course, AM tee times are always preferrable, so plan accordindly if that's something you're trying to target. With a few Euro stars making rare non-major starts, this could be a good chance to throw them into your lineups, allowing you to save some superstar starts for later in the season.

Group A

Rory McIlroy (10): His performance at the WGC-Mexico surprised even himself. With his form already back, I think it's an easy call to fire away.

Jason Day (10): Plenty of starts to use for the World No. 2, considering his light early-season schedule. He's the defending champ so I will load him up on my bench and use him if needed.

=SUPER SUBS =
Rickie Fowler, Louis Oosthuizen

Group B
Justin Rose (8): Phenomenal course history, but ZERO wins on his API resume. Instead, he's finished second, third, eighth, and ninth. Perhaps he's trying to play top-10 bingo, and he only has six more spots to fill.

Hideki Matsuyama (9): One of the best on TOUR with a long iron in his hand. That is exactly what Bay Hill demands.

Paul Casey (6): I'm running through my Casey starts quickly, already at six remaining. He's finally rounding into form, so this could be the week he finally strikes it rich.

Kevin Na (8): Lost the battle with food posioning last week but I'm expecting a big rebound this week on a course where he's racked up five top 15s over his last six appearances.

=SUPER SUBS=
Charles Howell III, Francesco Molinari, Brandt Snedeker, Jason Kokrak

Group C

Zach Johnson (8): Surprisingly stellar ball-striking stats at Bay Hill, despite the length of the course. His short game can contend with the best, so that is a solid combination for a good week.

Henrik Stenson (10): Sleeping in his own bed this week and well-prepped after a T7 at the Valspar last week. I will start with Stenson and only swap to ZJ if need be.

=SUPER SUBS=
Byeong Hun An, Tyrrell Hatton

Ryan O’Sullivan (O)
