Expert Picks: Valspar

Tuesday, March 07, 2017

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at Rotoworld.com.

Here is a quick rundown of what sites and formats we will cover each week:

Page 1 will feature all of our selections for GolfChannel.com and Yahoo! Fantasy Golf.
Page 2 will go over One-and-Done as well as Daily Fantasy Golf picks.
Page 3 goes over some European Tour picks for the Fantasy Race to Dubai

Before we look ahead, Mo Yoshimoto takes a look at last week's action in his WGC-Mexico Recap.

Now for the picks...

Last Week: 404.5 points

Last Week Rank: 11,937

Gary Woodland ($31,900)
Byeong Hun An ($29,100)
Graham DeLaet ($15,000)
Robert Garrigus ($10,500)
Shawn Stefani ($7,300)
Beau Hossler ($4,300)

ANALYSIS:  Hossler is trying to play his way into TOUR status so he's going to give it his full attention every week he earns an invite. Stefani is a risky course history play that saves a bit of cash. Garrigus, DeLaet, and Woodland all have great ball-striking numbers at Innisbrook Resort. Lastly, Byeong Hun An is gaining some comfort on the PGA TOUR and should feel even more so this week as he spent his amateur days in the Tampa area at the IMG Academy.

Beau Hossler ($4,300)
George McNeill ($5,600)
Lucas Glover ($13,400)
Graham DeLaet ($15,000)
Bill Haas ($29,700)
Gary Woodland ($31,900)

ANALYSIS:  Going with three of the same golfers as me (Hossler, DeLaet, Woodland) so that may be a nice starting point. After that, Ryan has gone with golfers with southern roots.

*Make sure you check our Twitter accounts for any updates before the first tee ball flies on Thursday. Change in weather, tee times, etc. can always lead to last-minute changes and we will let you know through our social media channels.

Valspar Strategy: The winds appear to be mild for a change here at Innisbrook Resort. That means we don't need to worry about tee-time waves and can focus on playing the best golfers.

Group A

Gary Woodland (9): A past champ at Innisbrook (2011), he should feast on the par 5s this week. In great form this season, as well.

Luke Donald (10): Rounding back into form with three straight top 30 and he's also a past champ (2012) just like Woodland.

=SUPER SUBS =
Patrick Reed, Bill Haas

Group B

Jim Furyk (10): As you can see by the '10' next to his name, I've been waiting for Furyk to show some form before I get back on board. He's yet to pop, but I can't help myself this week as he tees it up at the Copperhead Course. A layout in which he's won (2010), finished runner-up (2012) and also T7 (2013).

Matt Kuchar (10): Mr. Consistent has collected top 40s in eight of his nine Valspar visits, five of those going for top 15s.

Justin Thomas (9): The hottest golfer in the field, or at least he is if you look at his entire body of work in 2017. Since the calendar flipped, he's missed two cuts but he's also won two events and was the 54-hole leader last week before finishing T5.

Kevin Na (9): His last three trips to the Copperhead Course have yielded finishes of T22, T10, and RUNNER-UP. Finished T4 at the Genesis Open just three week ago, so his game is right there.

=SUPER SUBS=
Charles Howell III, Steve Stricker, Ryan Moore, Robert Garrigus, Webb Simpson

Group C

Graham DeLaet (10): A perfect convergence of recent form and course history. He enters the week with three straight finishes of T17 or better and he's done the same here at Innisbrook Resort (T5-T8-T17).

Henrik Stenson (10): He is a class above the majority of this week's field. The down side is that he's arriving fresh off a WD in Mexico (stomach virus). As long as he's 80% recovered from that, he should be in line for a great finish.

=SUPER SUBS=
Byeong Hun An, Jason Dufner, Daniel Berger
